With its beautiful lake views and plentiful bike paths, this town is big on outdoor activity.
Filled with outdoor adventure and a thriving arts and shopping scene, Dillon, which is nestled along the Ten Mile and Gore Mountain ranges, is best known for its stunning alpine scenery and proximity to several world-renowned ski resorts.
Located in the central region of Summit County, this quiet town is surrounded by hundreds of miles of wilderness and features several rapid-heavy rivers and cold-water fishing holes. At the Dillon Marina — the highest deep-water marina in North America — locals tool around on pontoon boats and paddleboards, and 26 miles of shoreline is reserved for sunbathing and picnicking.
Lakeside concerts take place at the newly renovated Dillon Amphitheater each summer. The Dillon Farmers Market, which runs every Friday from June through September, offers some of Colorado’s best produce and artisan goods.
Scenic trails abound here, but if you prefer indoor activities, check out the nearby Outlets at Silverthorne, a multiplex of more than 70 name-brand stores, or visit the Frisco Pedestrian Promenade, where three blocks of Main Street have been transformed into an open-air shopping and dining experience for pedestrians and bikes only.
Home to a few more than 1,000 full-time residents, Dillon is a small town built around the beauty of the great outdoors. Many residents here work in the surrounding ski resorts and share an appreciation for mountain life.
An eclectic mix of casual dining options abounds in Dillon. Local favorites include the Red Mountain Grill, offering hearty American cuisine with a Southwestern twist, and the Dillon Dam Brewery, the largest brewpub in the Rockies, which serves a handcrafted range of beers and a variety of bar food. Arapahoe Cafe & Pub is a historic spot that has been serving barbecue since the late 1800s. Argento’s Empanados is a cool, cozy Argentinian spot featuring a small menu of empanadas and entrees, plus coffee and cocktails.
There’s a wealth of activities to explore in Dillon, many of them outdoors. The Dillon Ice Castles, an award-winning frozen attraction located in only four cities across North America, is built using hundreds of thousands of icicles hand-placed by professional ice artists. The castles include breathtaking LED-lit sculptures, frozen thrones, ice-carved tunnels, slides, fountains, and more. Your ticket price allows you to walk in and around 25 million illuminated pounds of ice.
At the Dillon Marina, the world’s highest deep-water marina, you’ll find lakeside dining almost two miles above sea level, plus world-class sailing, shopping, and boat rentals.
And throughout the summer months, events, concerts, movies on the water, and the Lake Dillon Beer Fest all take place at the Marina Park Pavilion and Amphitheater.
